Rafael was born in Chuarrancho, Guatemala. In 1961, at the age of 8, he began to work in agriculture. At that time, he went with his father to the Motagua River, where he collected stones of different sizes and colors, this is where his passion for jade began. From 1980 to 1985, he worked at Jade Maya and created many beautiful pieces.
