Quetzal
Designed and hand-carved by Axis CES53 Angelphase, this piece is a signed work bearing the mark “CES53” on its reverse, affirming its authorship and originality. The piece required 225 hours of meticulous carving and hand polishing, reflecting a deep commitment to precision, patience, and mastery of the material.
Inspired by a rich dialogue between Pre-Columbian art, ancient and modern Chinese jades, Māori jade traditions, modern art, and Art Deco, Quetzal stands as a contemporary interpretation rooted in ancestral forms. Crafted from Guatemalan “Rainbow” lilac jadeite and complemented by a 14K gold chain, the work honors the sacred bird as a symbol of freedom, beauty, and cultural continuity across civilizations and time.
