It is believed that Stela 2 from Izapa illustrates an origin scene -according to the Popol Vuh- in which the hero twins knock a giant macaw of the Maya underworld out of a fruit tree. Later, the macaw, also known as Vucub Caquix (or Seven Macaw) was tricked into giving up his jeweled eyes, beak and teeth. Disheartened by his loss, the macaw god died.
