Naranjo Mask

The original of this mask is made from jade, obsidian, jasper and shell.  It was discovered in Naranjo, Peten, Guatemala. It is a mosaic portrait most likely of an important Maya noble of the city.  The mask was featured on the cover of Latin American Art in 1992, when it was included in the exhibition "Treasures of the New World" in Brussels. The piece is part of a private collection.
