Figurine from La Venta

This figurine is a replica in fine jadeite of one of the items that belong to a group of interesting and unique carvings from Offering #4 from La Venta (Olmec culture site located in Tabasco, Mexico). The group consisted of seventeen figurines arranged in front of a flat row of six slender jade celts, all securely set upright in a base of sand. It is believed that this group of figurines is a representarion of a procession or some sort of ritual.
