The Bat God
Mosaic Jade Pendant

This jadeite jade mosaic mask is a copy of the breastplate of a Zapoteca Shaman. The original was found in Monte Alban, Oaxaca, Mexico. It was worn as the representation of the Bat God (Zotz) and the side holes served to attach a strap in order to hang the mask from the neck or around the waist.
The original is displayed in the National Museum of Anthropology and History in Mexico City.
